(More customer reviews)I bought this potty online, blind (aka, I had never seen it in a store). The only other floor potty that we've owned is the BABYBJ?RN Potty Chair - Blue.I've never liked it much because my son's bum gets pinched in the back when he sits down. And he pretty much refuses to use it.
I bought this unable to find a review, and was dubious at best about this potty, but just desperate enough to motivate my son (who is 3.5 and vehemently opposed to the inconvenience of giving up diapers) to use the potty that I was willing to try it (he, like so many other little kids, LOVES the movie Cars). And when I pulled the cheap plastic parts out of the box, I almost didn't even bother to put it together (took 1 minute, btw). But here's the breakdown:What I like:
1.My son pees on it! Thank you Lightning McQueen. This gets the seat the 4 stars (even though my son likes it, I still can't give it 5 stars, for reasons below; and if it didn't have Lightning McQueen, I suspect I'd be writing more of a 2-3 star review).
2.We haven't dealt with #2 yet, but #1 is remaining properly contained in the yellow container (the pee guard isn't as high as the Baby Bjorn but it's getting the job done).[The yellow bowl is round, rather than the oval on some other designs, so I'ma little concerned if he's sitting far back doing a #2 that the mess will not be contained just on the yellow bowl.]
3.The back is very high, and I think it's reasonably comfortable for my son while he's sitting on it (as long as the potty is up against something solid -- see below).
What I don't like:
1.It feels flimsy and and falls apart easily.
This comes in 3 parts. The black piece on the bottom (the part which becomes a step-stool later -- and not a very stable one at that because there's no rubber to keep it from slipping) is like a big bucket. The Red part (which is actually two parts that you shove together, snap into place, when you take the toilet out of the box) sits on top of the black part; it does NOT snap in place in any way.The yellow part is pretty small (though that's not bothering my son)My 3.5 year old son constantly knocks the whole potty apart by merely walking into it (and once, losing his balance as he was going to sit on the potty).
2.It's not that stable.
The Baby Bjorn potty can sit anywhere we want; but this one, I keep leaning up against a wall because I think it will tip over backwards if my son leans back (we haven't actually tried this, but the base is smaller, barely, than the seat area, so it's not that well balanced).
3.It's not versatile.
It's supposedly a 3 in 1, but I cannot imagine putting the red piece on a full-sized potty and having it be stable (I'll update this review if I'm proven wrong later). As I mentioned earlier, the black part is supposed to be a step-stool, but unless you're on carpet, it just slides all over the place.
4.Hard to move.
I hear from tons of friends the advice to skip these little floor potties and just get the "big potty" insert (the BABYBJ?RN Toilet Trainer - White/Black is great!), but our particular problem is that my son is convinced that he'll never have any fun again if he's forced to stop playing and use the potty, rather than just going in his diaper (or even underwear....).So we're trying to show him how quick and easy it is to use the potty. Therefore, we move the potty to whichever room he is playing in.The Baby Bjorn potty you just pick up by the back, because the back and base are all one piece, but this potty needs either two trips or two hands together (both inconvenient when also dealing with carrying a baby) because the top doesn't attach to the base.So it's just really a pain to move it around.Bottom line:
Would I recommend this potty?Absolutely, since in the end, all I REALLY care about is that my son will pee on it!But I hope this review helps you make a reasonable guess about whether this seat might work for you.
